FOCUS is pleased to announce the 40 recent graduates from the 2018 Women In Leadership – STEM program. Through generous funding from MasterCard, all participants received full-tuition scholarships to the two-month leadership development program.

Launched in 2016, the Women In Leadership – STEM program is designed to help early-career women in science, technology, engineering and math-related fields build their leadership competencies. Over the course of five seminars and field days, the program provides more than 25 hours of training, covering topics such as emotional intelligence, inquiry, group facilitation, diversity and inclusion, negotiation, civic leadership and career development. The experience also incorporated exercises and interviews with experienced STEM professionals.

“According to the U.S. Census, women currently comprise only 24% of STEM positions. But in cities like St. Louis – with a growing startup scene and a strong biosciences community – this number is growing,” says FOCUS President & CEO Dr. Yemi Akande-Bartsch. “For FOCUS, it’s important to be able to offer the kind of personalized training, support and networking opportunities that will help these women be successful in their careers and within these historically male-dominated fields.”
