Stay engaged in The issues facing St. Louis
FOCUS St. Louis seeks to engage citizens from throughout the St. Louis region in a vigorous dialogue on a wide variety of community policy issues. At FOCUS, our role is that of neutral convener and facilitator: we work to present the issues fairly and impartially, and to provide forums so that residents can participate in civil conversations. We encourage our program participants, alumni, members and friends of FOCUS to engage in these important issues that affect our community.
Too often, people become disengaged from their community because they lack time or knowledge on issues, and do not like the conflict that sometimes occurs when parties have differing views. Working in partnership with the St. Louis Beacon, Community Conversations were designed to provide opportunities for citizens to have thoughtful dialogues about the challenges facing the region free from partisan bickering and dramatic polarization that has engulfed political discourse.
Community Conversations begin with discussion guides on various policy topics that are currently relevant to the St. Louis region. Each discussion guide includes a description of the issues, background information, who is involved with the issue, possible perspectives on the issue, some discussion questions, and links for further reading. In addition, FOCUS hosts Dialogue & Drafts, informal gatherings at locations around the region that encourage conversation, education and action.

FOCUS recognizes the need for citizens to engage in interactive conversations with leaders and subject matter experts to discuss complex issues and policies that impact our region. FOCUS Policy Forums were established with that in mind. We use our expansive membership and alumni network to bring together experts to discuss the most pressing topics of the day, typically in a panel discussion setting that allows for robust questions and discussion.
