Monday, August 1, 2016
FOCUS St. Louis is pleased to announce that it has been selected to serve as the Executive Director for the Missouri Supreme Court’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Fairness (CREF). Established on Oct. 6, 2015, the Commission’s goal is to examine and review current practices and recommend measures to ensure fairness, impartiality, equal access and full participation for racial and ethnic minorities in the judicial process and in the practice of law.
The Supreme Court announced its search for an executive director/independent contractor earlier this year. Under the direction of the Commission’s tri-chairs, FOCUS St. Louis will provide support for Commission activities, including coordinating meetings, developing policies and procedures, assisting with data collection and research, reporting and community outreach. FOCUS St. Louis staff member Julie Lawson will direct these efforts, in addition to her current role as Vice President, Programs.
“We are pleased to partner with CREF on this important work,” says FOCUS President and CEO Yemi Akande-Bartsch, Ph.D. “The Commission chairs and members are responsible for setting a policy agenda and recommendations for changes in the judicial system, and our goal is to support them in any way we can as they work to improve and promote racial equity in our judicial system.”
