It’s not your ordinary service project! Get hands-on and then get your barbecue on. Join Connect With St. Louis and several nonprofit organizations doing great work in the St. Louis community for a choose-your-own-adventure service project. This event is aimed at ages 21-35 and is a great opportunity to meet opportunity to meet other young professionals.
Cost: $5 (which goes toward a scholarship fund for the Emerging Leaders program)
PHASE 1: PICK YOUR PURPOSE (select a service project) - 9 a.m.- noon
This year's service sites are:
Kingdom House (10 spots)
Kingdom House helps people achieve better lives through holistic programs and services, and you can be a part of their mission through this one day of meaningful volunteering. The service project will consist of either painting, cleaning, organizing donations, gardening, and/or grounds beautification, all depending on the weather.
The Little Bit Foundation (20 spots)
The Little Bit Foundation helps disadvantaged school children by creating a positive impact for personal growth, increasing self-esteem and encouraging a more focused and active learning environment by partnering closely with St. Louis schools. The morning's projects may include unpacking inventory, making up school supplies & hygiene kits, or matching up stuffed animals with a book for the literacy program.
Perennial (20 spots)
Perennial is a community workshop and store in St. Louis, MO that offers educational programming in creative reuse to diverse populations and sells creatively repurposed home goods and eco-friendly project supplies. This service project will include cleaning, organizing, and prepping materials for upcoming workshops.
Safe Connections (15 spots)
Safe Connections works to reduce the impact and incidence of relationship violence and sexual assault through education, crisis, intervention, counseling and support services. This service project will include landscaping and beautification of the Safe Connections’ grounds.
Saint Louis Public Schools (20 spots)
Through this day of meaningful volunteering, you get to provide much needed help at an elementary school in the St. Louis Publics Schools district. This project will take place at Patrick Henry Elementary and will include an indoor classroom painting project with outdoor gardening/landscaping projects if time and weather allows.
Support Dogs (7 spots)
Support Dogs offers dignity, hope, and independence by providing highly skilled service dogs to individuals with disabilities and uniquely trained therapy dogs to serve the community. This service project involves washing dogs, making dog treats, or doing some landscaping work.
PHASE 2: FIND YOUR FUN (BBQ and washers tournament) - noon - 1:30 p.m.
Join us for at Tower Grove Park for a barbecue lunch from Salt & Smoke, a washers tournament, and a chance to make friends and network with your fellow volunteers immediately following your service project. Meet us at the Old Carriage Pavilion starting at noon.
