Influencing Policy: Quality Educational Opportunities

THE DESEGREGATION TASK FORCE

In September 1997, FOCUS St. Louis convened a special 16-member task force of diverse citizens to study the potential impact of a settlement of the city’s court-ordered desegregation program. The task force also served as an independent community educator on the issue, and published a comprehensive report: FOCUS on Desegregation. This report was a valuable source of information for citizens who voted in February 1999 to pass a sales tax increase that would support a speedy and cost-effective settlement to the desegregation court case.
