New Americans Task Force and Implementation Effort:

FOCUS St. Louis' New Americans Task Force in 2003 tackled the issue of evaluating the educational opportunities of New Americans in the St. Louis region.

Dr. Lynn Beckwith and Dianna Barron, co-chairs, led the forty member task force. Task force members represented the education, business, government and civic sectors of the community. The task force explored and provided recommendations for the research question: How will state and local educational systems meet the growing needs of New Americans in the St. Louis metropolitan region?

The team focused on the goals of increasing community support for school districts experiencing an influx of immigrant students, educating the community about immigrant issues, and advocating for access to higher education for all immigrant students.
