What qualities do you expect to see in a highly effective leader?
Someone who can create a sense of enthusiasm, motivation, somebody who’s got a vision that they can clearly articulate and rally people around. I think someone who cares about their team and is able to encourage and to develop the qualities of their team, more of a focus on "how we’re all in this together" and "how do we get it done," versus you know, "me, me, me" type of an approach.-Dee Joyner (51sec)

Dee A. Joyner is Senior Vice President of Commerce Bank, responsible for organizational development and community relations. Prior to joining Commerce, she served as chief-of-staff to former County Executive, H. C. Milford.
A native of the St. Louis area, Joyner received undergraduate and graduate degrees in government and urban planning from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. She has her masters degree in business administration from St. Louis University.
She has served as Executive Director of the St. Louis County Economic Council and as Planning Director for the County; Executive Director of the Midwestern Center for the Coro Foundation; and Director of Community and Public Affairs for the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council.
Joyner has been active in a number of community organizations, and currently chairs the Boards of the Aquinas Institute of Theology and Forest Park Forever. She also serves on the Board of Delta Dental of Missouri and is a member of the Executive Advisory Council for the School of Business at St. Louis University.
Joyner was a participant in Leadership St. Louis and has received a number of awards for her work in the community including being named a Woman of Achievement and receiving the YWCA Special Leadership Award and a community leadership award from Coro. She was named alumnus of the year by Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and received the Joseph E. Boland, SJ Outstanding Alumnus Award from St. Louis University.
