Leadership St. Louis®

Founded in 1976, the LEADERSHIP ST. LOUIS® (LSL) program is one of the most highly-respected leadership development programs in the nation. The program was built on the belief that the community, just as any business or organization, requires strong leadership to grow and improve. Graduates of the program include CEOs and other corporate senior level executives, business owners, state senators and representatives, mayors, school superintendents and principals, university chancellors and deans, attorneys, and nonprofit executive directors. The common ground under this wide array of participants is a deep and active commitment to community improvement.

More About the Program

The program provides community immersion experiences and advanced skill development which enable participants to explore critical issues in our region. LSL classes meet for full-day sessions on Friday and Saturday each month from September to May. Opening and closing sessions are both overnight retreats. Seminars enhance self-awareness of leadership approaches and include on-site visits with decision makers that inspire participants to address community challenges. Seminar topics include:

  Economic Development
  Education
  Racism
  Power and Politics
  Poverty and Social Services
  The Criminal Justice System
  Arts and Culture
  The Environment

Admission is competitive. Every January nominations of emerging and established leaders are sought from all segments of the community. Nominees may submit applications until mid-March. Finalists must attend a mandatory interview with LSL alumni. The final makeup of each year’s class is selected to reflect the diversity of the region. LSL fees are $3,500. Partial financial aid is available for those who can demonstrate the need.

The deadline for nominations for the 2010-2011 class was Friday, March 5, 2010.  Interviews will be conducted in the middle of April, with the final class members being announced afterward.

LSL Alumni Activities

LSL alumni and current class members meet for thought-provoking discussion and dinner through regularly scheduled meals in each others homes. If you are interested in attending or hosting a dinner at your home, please contact Becca Aune at 314-622-1250 x115.
